St Edmund’s School Day
The school day starts at 8.45am and finishes at 3.15pm.
Registration is from 8.55am to 9.05am.
At 10.30am the children have a 20 minute break to stretch their legs, have a run around and catch
up with their friends. After break the children share a snack together and some quiet time before their next lesson.
Children in Reception have their lunch at 11.45am and their break ends at 12.45pm. They have a story before the afternoon session begins at 1.00.
Y1,2,3 start to have their lunch from 12.00 noon.
Y4,5,6 begin their break at 12.10pm and start to eat from 12.25pm.
Lunch-time ends at 1.10pm for all children.
We have a lunchtime HUB for any children who may need additional support.
Y2 have a 10 minute afternoon play.
Y1 and R have learning time which incorporates learning through play
Throughout the day all children will take part in the daily mile – 15 minute walking break.
Drop-off and Collection Times
At the beginning of the school day, parents are asked to drop their children off at the school gates
– back gates for Y2+ and front gates for R and Y1. Children then walk straight to their classrooms where their teachers are waiting for them. A member of the Senior Leadership Team is always on the front and back gate - there is always a member of staff available should you need to give a quick message or you can pop into the school office. More formal requests should always be made in writing as it is easy to forget a verbal conversation.
At the end of the school day, Reception children are collected from outside their classroom and all other children are collected from the main playground. In the event of heavy rain, children can be collected from their classroom doors. This is not commonplace due to the congestion it would cause and the safety issues surrounding it. We want to maintain and do have good links with all parents. If normal arrangements have to be altered (eg you are delayed or another person is collecting your child), please let us know. This avoids any confusion or upset. Thank you
Getting to and from school
To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it’s healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. If you do need to travel by car, please use the library car park and walk to school. Free passes for the car park may be obtained from the school office. Thank you as ever for your continued support of your children and our lovely school.
