Important information
Year 5 have PE on a Tuesday and Thursday.
At present, children should come to school wearing their PE kit on those days. They should have a spare pair of shoes to wear on a Tuesday if their trainers get wet or muddy.
If your child has a book from the reading scheme, this will be changed on a Tuesday and needs to be returned on a Friday. Free readers should change their books as and when they finish them. Please ensure your child has their diary in school every day so that staff can monitor the frequency of their reading and sign it as appropriate. Click here to view a suggested reading list for children in Year 5.
Reading and Spelling - It is important that your child reads every day for a minimum of 20 minutes – they must note this in their diaries and have it signed by you.
Your child will also be set a short reading comprehension homework to complete each week.
Each week your child will have a new set of spellings to learn following a pattern – these will be tested each Monday. Please click here to view a range of spelling activity ideas to help your child learn. In addition to the set spellings, please ensure your child revises the year 5 and 6 high frequency words which can be found at the back of your child’s diary or alternatively click here to find the list
Maths - Your child will be given a CGP workbook for their maths homework and will be set activities each week in line with our in-class learning. Each activity is divided into 3 sets. They may choose to do one, two or all three sets each week. 20 minutes a night of maths homework is recommended which can also include revising multiplication facts or any other areas of difficulty. Guidance on the year 5 calculation methods can be found in your child’s diary or here.
