Sports Premium

All maintained schools in England receive additional government funding to improve the quality of PE and sport activities offered to pupils in their schools.  At St Edmund's, we are delighted to report that some of this funding, over the past years, has been used to ensure school progress towards the Schools Games Mark.

We are proud to let our pupils and parents know that we have been awarded the School Games PLATINUM award for the past two years.

The School Games Mark rewards schools for their commitment to and development of competition, school sport and physical education.   Schools are assessed at BRONZE, SILVER or GOLD levels and in order to achieve any level of the School Games Mark, schools must meet rigorous criteria set out within each standard.

If, after 5 years of continuous GOLD standard, schools can prove sustained high quality provision, they can apply for the PLATINUM standard. This shows continuous sustained excellence at the highest level possible. We have proven this for the past two years! Congratulations to all the children and staff for their hard work.

Please read our Sports Premium Report to see how funding we received was spent.

PE is a very important part of school life at St Edmund's School.  This year we have had some incredible successes!

Richmond Borough Sports

2025, St Edmund’s achieved second place in the medium sized school's category bringing home a host of silver medals and many personal gold bests!  We are extremely proud of the team.

As well as competing, the team got to see and hold Mo Farah’s Olympic gold medals won at the Rio and London Games.  Well done to everyone who took part in this event.

2026 Borough Sports was cancelled which is a shame as we had some fine athletes ready to share and demonstrate their skills.

Additional School Achievements

Girl's Football

For the past three years our girls team have been incredible - who knows what next year will bring?

Their skills and talents got them through to local competition final and their win resulted in them being asked to represent Brentford against teams from ALL over the country. Not once, but three years in a row!  The quality of teams that represented the different premier league teams was phenomenal. All the finalists from around the country were invited to play at Brentford (2024), Wolverhampton (2025) and Brentford (2026).

Our girls were officially the second-best team in the country and certainly the best team in London in 2024 and were the best team in London again 2025 and 2026!

We are so PROUD of each and every one of them – they really are an amazing team!

Boy's Football

Our boys have also been on a winning streak - they are the winners of the Richmond Borough Plate Competition as well as semi-finalists in the Richmond Borough Playoffs.  They have worked really hard and as a group have developed a real sense of competition and teamwork which has been wonderful to see.

Tag-Rugby and Gaelic Football

As with the boy's football, the tag rugby team were also Richmond Borough Plate Winners as well as semi-finalists for the Richmond Borough Playoffs.  We have had an excellent year with our teams and having introduced Gaelic football to school (in its second year) have had the opportunity to take part in local competitions. We are beginning to see success which will stand us in good stead for the future.

Dance

Using some of the sports premium funding for dance and teacher CPD resulted in the children performing for the parents at the end of each term but also school wide at the summer fair. It was great participation by all, including parents who joined in aspects of the country and line dancing sets.  What a wonderful way to showcase children's talents and skills as well as parents!

We look forward to another successful year of sport and games!
